Now before you look closely at the shutters…remember that I have 1906 house and nothing is L E V E L! It was a tough time trying get the shutters to look somewhat level at the top and the bottom. And yes, I know there is dirt on the fan…I do clean it monthly but it isn’t often enough.
BEFORE
Now that you have seen the before and after, time to let you know I don’t like the look. The shutters gave me too much privacy and blocked too much sun. So sometime this week I will be selecting 3 of them and plan to hang them Blogged for Between Naps on the Porch’s Metamorphosis Monday…stop by and see what others have transformed. Also tagging onto Southern Hospitality's Today's Thrifty Treasures.

I love the shutters, but I think you're right they do seem to really make your porch feel closed off. Can't wait to see them hung vertically.

This is a great idea and even greater find!
I love what you did, You Go Girl !
Hugs, Kammy
Now that's perfect. I'd sit on your porch all day long if I could. Now I really wnat to put a porch on our house....or move.
Hi Renee, great find on those shutters. Great repurpose as a privacy screen. I see what you mean about wanting to hang them vertically. Will be interesting to see the difference!
Thanks for sharing!
Tina
Great idea! They look like they were always supposed to be there!

What a great idea! I'm sorry you have to redo them, but I think they'll look good hung vertically, and give you just enough privacy. Can't wait to see the redo!
Love this, Renee!!

What a great idea I love it! BTW that reminds me I need to clean our fan too...ugh!
Blessings,
Linda
It seems like everybody has such cool ideas for those old shutters, you included. I really need to get my hands on some!
So glad to check out your blog.
This is a great idea for shutters! Liked this alot.
Like all the great ideas that are shared on Met Monday.
I posted for the first time this week.
Blessings to you from Kansas,

Love the shutter idea and you were so fortunate to find the shutters and give them a second life.
They look great on your porch, almost like they've always been there. Good job!
You have the sweetest little porch. I probably would have gone for the privacy, as I like the intimate, cozy setting. But then again, light on a porch is very important. I like the look either way. Such a wonderful old house you have!

The shutters are fantastic! What a great difference that must make in privacy!
Great idea. I am anxious to see how you're hanging them.
This is one of the greatest looks. I keep my eyes peeled for shutters on the curb. I guess everybody else does too.
Your porch metamorphasis looks great~ very clever, well done.
Have a blessed day!
I like the idea of using shutters for privacy. Be sure to repost so that we can see what you've decided to do with your "screen"...
love the shutters for privacy, a great idea and the coral with the white rocks!
Great idea! The shutters add so much charm! I am from Western Wisc. about 120 miles from the twin cities, come by if you can! Cindy
I love your porch. I am currently working on my sunroom and am using the same colors as you.
They do what they are supposed to do, but you are right, they block too much light and make the airy porch feel like a closed in room. Can't wait to see the re-do. Good luck and I'll be back to see.
Hi Renee~ I really like the shutters, but can understand your view on feeling blocked. Either way though, your porch is just adorable!!
Have a sweet day,
becky
I love your porch. It feels like a nice place to hang out on. What a great idea to hang shutters for more privacy. I like the shutters just the way you have them. To bad there wasn't away you could have then open a tad bit for your liking. You were saying it gave you to much privacy. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
I had the same problem. We built a trellis I guess you would call it and I have a vine planted that hopefully will climb all over it one day. You can see a little bit of it here. http://shaunahowington.blogspot.com/2009/07/i-love-look-of-front-porch-with-rocking.html
I love the shutter idea too!
Oh, those shutters are adorable! And I loved your pics, but can't wait to see how you end up using them. I found a beautiful pair of vintage shutters that I'm posting tomorrow.
