Plate rack cleaning dilemma...

I always wanted a plate rack so I was thrilled when I was able to design them into my kitchen plans. I love the look and having the plates at my fingertips...however I hate cleaning them. I need some tips on how to clean the insides of plate racks that are permanently attached.

As I was looking at this closeup of an empty plate rack it looked like jail bars and I thought I feel like a jail sentence is being imposed upon me every time I have to clean them.
Please share your cleaning tips!
Thanks for stopping by...

I love the corner cabinet with the side plate racks. We are going to move the sink to the right about a foot or so into the corner and I have been pondering what kind of cabinets to put over it. I also insisted that I had to have a plate rack somewhere but I never thought of this. Great idea. What company did you use for the cabinets? I think I may have to copy you.

Good morning..I love your plate racks, too. I don't have a built-in rack so am not sure just how to clean them. Tina at CHERRY HILL COTTAGE has one...you might ask her. I am thinking, right off hand, that her address is

Good luck...

Hi Renee,
I understand your dilemma. I got plate racks several months ago and have the same problem with dust build up since they are open all the time. I treat them like any dusting project and remove all the plates and dry dust them every few days with a clean duster. (Don't want to use a dirty duster around my dish area.) :) It only takes about 2 minutes. If I wait until it gets really dirty then it takes a lot longer to clean. ;) But I don't use any harsh chemical cleaners because of the dishes. Just dish soap and hot water. Hope this helps. :)

Your blog has been an inspiration to me. And I want to give back to those who have helped me.

I have a plate rack but the "bars" are not a close together as yours. I am able to get between them with my hand (sort of).

I LOVE plate racks, and at one point I was considering open shelving in my kitchen, but 2 years ago I built a hanging wine rack, and my wine glasses are ALWAYS dirty! I have to run all the glasses through the wash every week just to make it look nice. Is it worth it?

I’ve had a hard time also with cleaning my built in wooden dish rack. Tonight I took my plastic salad tongs, applied Thomasville kitchen cabinet cream to a clean microfibres cloth and it worked great. The long tongs reached the back rack and the cloth reached where needed.
