I do believe winter is over...

The weather in Minneapolis, MN is finally at a point where I actually believe winter is behind us. It was in the 60s this past week and I am no longer embarrassed that I put out all my porch and patio furniture. I say that because the furniture has been out since March and has snowed three times since I put it out.

Bought this pillow three years ago at a church rummage sale for 50 cents. All it needed was a good wash to make it come alive.

The pillow makes its home on a chair on my screen porch.

Pics of the porch will follow soon...once I am recovered from the drive to Montana. We were gone 76 hours and 36 hours were spent driving.

Also, I know I promised pics of the entry way today, but I didn't like how they turned out so I will have to shoot a new batch.

Coat rack style...

The baby blue, door knob coat/hat rack hangs in my entry. The rest of the entry will be revealed. I wanted to show you the entire entry, but I decided on short notice to drive to Montana with a friend...so I was rushing to get stuff done before I left and the red and white tour (see previous 3 posts) was all I could manage.

What do you do with only one bookend?

You make it into a doorstop. I can't even remember where I found this lonely duck. Once I picked him up and felt how heavy he was I knew he had a future as a doorstop and a greeter.

Red and White Tour Part III...

The red and white tour continues. On the pillows in one of my guest rooms I have an well used red, white and blue quilt my friend Jayne was kind enough to sell to me. The quilt on the bed is drunkards path design. I found the top in a local antique store called Hunt and Gather. I was drawn to the red and white and decided to rescue it and send it off to my quilter Lynn. I asked her to use red thread so the quilt design would show on the white back (see close up of the back below).

The dust ruffle has red in it...I fell in love with it because of the colors and ruffle look. It is Ralph Lauren and I paid $20 and bought it a Ralph Lauren outlet outside Burlington, Vermont seven years ago. I don't shop outlet stores, but the store was right next to the hotel we were staying in. 

Isn't the back beautiful?

Yes, more red...I actually call this the red bedroom because of the red dresser, flag quilt hanging on my quilt design board and all the red shown above.

Red and White Tour Part II...

Saw this watercolor while browsing a store in New Hampshire. I asked one of the folks in the store if she knew the artist, and she said yes, I am the artist. The reason I wanted to find the artist...is because the watercolor was framed and matted when I found it. However, since I was flying home I didn't want to haul a frame with glass...the artist was kind enough to sell me just the watercolor so I could roll it in a tube and put it in the overhead on the plane. Of course I just had to add a red mat.

The frame was handmade by my friend Helen's husband Peter, and it is very special to me as Peter is no longer with us. Helen is also an artist..check out her paintings. Given my love for water this spoke to me.
