Crewel embroidery…

ca 023

The crewel embroidery on this fabric is phenomenal. My friend Jayne found this fabric at the Alameda Flea Market. She originally planned to use it to recover a chair but is now thinking of making it into a quilt/throw. I wish the photos had turned out better, the don’t do justice to the color or the detail of the work.

The guest room of my dreams…

california 041

As you peak through the glass French door of my friend Sandy’s guest bedroom…you are immediately drawn in.   The layout, the colors and the choice and placement of each item grabbed my attention immediately. Isn’t the headboard is stunning?california 042

The shape and color of the bedside table made me drool.

I have always wanted one of those large mirrors that leans against the wall. Not only was this one (see pic below) helpful when dressing, but it reflected all the light and the view from the other side of the room and the outside. The dark wood of the dresser is the perfect contrast to the rest of the room colors.

california 045 The California sunshine pours in to welcome you. Needless to say…I wanted to take this room home with me.

Everything tells a story…

I only want things in my home that hold a memory and tell a story. One of my closest friends, Margaret, died last August at the age of 49…she lost her five year battle to ovarian cancer. About a year before she died we spent four days at her beach house in Aptos, California. It was a special time, as it was just the two of us…we talked about everything in our lives, including our deep dark secrets, what she was going through and what the future held. Margaret bought me the sand and shells triangle art piece during that trip. Each time you turn it the view changes. It represents our time at the beach and our friendship.

I placed the sand and shells on the TV stand so it would be visible, and encourage me to turn it often, and to keep Margaret present. I realized that when I went to take a picture of the sand and shells today…that it is placed below the word DREAM and in front of decorating books that inspire me…all meant to be.
